Enabling older and disabled people to stay in their own homes

Care and Repair Makes Perfect Sense

A new report on older people living well at home highlights that 'it makes perfect sense for central and local government to invest in Care and Repair services for those who stay put.'

An All Party Parliamentary Group Inquiry has examined the challenges and barriers to older people living well at home.

The Group highlights the importance of the home in the current discussion on the future care of older people.

Members of the Inquiry were sometimes shocked to hear of the obstacles to getting assistance with basic home improvements. And yet it became clear that relatively modest investments will enable people to remain at home and enjoy independence.

The report further reveals the barriers to older people living well at home: delays and duplication in assessments, insufficient funds for preventative home care, inflexibility in delivering peronalised support, shortage of Disabled Facilites grants, and under-resourced Care and Repair services.
