The Carnege Trust UK and the Scottish Council of Voluntary Organisations have published a report that explores what people want for themselves as they approach old age and how policy and politics are responding to these aspirations. The report is written with an understanding that life in older age is about having a sense of belonging and purpose, with the intention that we continue to do those things that we did when we were younger but with a different emphasis. It warns that old age can become a clinical exercise in managing symptoms, conditions and budgets. It argues that being old is part of life; it is natural, and is a stage - not an illness suffered by a different species.
