The Role
The Care and Repair services play a crucial role in offering people personal, financial, and technical support, enabling them to repair, improve, or adapt a home that is no longer suitable to their needs. The impact of these services on the quality of life of many older and disabled people in Scotland is significant, bringing peace of mind to carers and families and reducing the need for more expensive services like home care, hospital treatment following falls, and even residential or nursing care. Care and Repair Scotland is the national body for Care and Repair in Scotland. We aim to provide a national platform to lead, promote, and support local Care and Repair teams. Your role as the National Director will be crucial in achieving strategic outcomes that will help older and disabled people live independently in their homes.
Care and Repair Scotland’s National Director is retiring after 25 years of leading the organisation. This presents a unique opportunity for someone interested in building on the success of the past and taking forward the role, initially as a secondment until June 2025. You will have the chance to make a significant impact, part of which will be to liaise with the Scottish Government to put in place funding that will allow the continuation of the post on a full-time basis. Your leadership will shape the future direction of Care and Repair Scotland.
Objectives of the Post:
1. Responsible and accountable for fulfilling the partnership objectives outlined in the Business Plan and as agreed with the Scottish Government.
2. Provide a national platform to lead, promote, and support local Care and Repair teams, working collaboratively to achieve strategic outcomes by helping older and disabled persons live independently in their own homes.
3. Responsible for effectively and efficiently running the Care and Repair Scotland office.
4. Responsible for overall financial strategy and budgetary control as outlined in governing documents.
5. Provide information to Care and Repair Scotland's board members to enable them to fulfil their strategic direction, financial control, legal obligations, organisational, policy, and performance management responsibilities.
About You

You must have a working knowledge of Care and Repair and the ethos of a home-based, personalised service. Your success in the role will depend on your ability to network with a wide range of organisations, including local authorities, health and social care providers, voluntary groups and Care and Repair teams. You will also demonstrate an understanding of how the home is central to delivering health and social work policies. You will have a clean driving license and must be prepared to travel throughout Scotland, which will sometimes be mitigated by online conference calls.
